Uisge 2014

Eilen tuli käytyä sitten neljänsissä Uisge-festareissa ja päällimmäisenä jäi mieleen, että ensi vuonna pitää kyllä tulla paikalle jo torstaina, koska muutama viski, jota olisi tehnyt mieli maistaa oli jo loppu (mm. Highland Park Freya). Mielenkiintoisia viskejä oli silti tarjolla moniakin ja fiilis oli jälleen kerran upea. Susanna (siis se Huovinen) voisi poiketa kurkkaamassa ensi kerralla, että ei se alkoholi aina ole se iso paha susi tässä maassa. Alkoholi voi olla jotain sellaistakin, josta nauttia kohtuudella.

Yesterday I visited the fourth whisky festivals here in Finland called Uisge. Next year I definitely go there on Thursday because few whiskies were sold out before I had the chance to taste them (e.g. Highland Park Freya). But still there were lots of excellent whiskies and the feeling was great. Very mellow and everybody was enjoying themselves.

Tällä kertaa tuli siis käytyä seuraavat viskit läpi.:

Bunnahabhain, 19 YO, 1990/2009 (Douglas Laing)
Tällä tuli aloitettua ja ihan mukiinmenevä oli. Kahvinen tuoksu hedelmällä ja sherryllä varustettuna. Vaniljaa löytyi myös mausta. Kuuluu Douglas Laingin Old Malt Cask -sarjaan.
I started with this whisky and it had some coffee aromas with fruits and sherry. Also vanilla on the palate.
Pisteet: n21+t23+f22+b22 = 88/100.

Aberlour A'bunadh batch #47
Apunapeista olen vasta batchit 17 ja 20 maistanut ja nekin olivat järjettömän hyviä. Tämä versio on siis kypsytetty Oloroso sherry -tynnyrissä ja maistuukin hyvin paljon sherrylle. Muutoinkin hedelmäinen ja tamminen viski. Pidän kovasti.
I've tasted two other batches of A'bunadh (17 and 20) and they also were very tasty. This was matured in spanish oloroso sherry cask and therefore had very sherryish aroma and taste. Also very fruity and oaky. Excellent.

Glentauchers Liquorice Spirit
Glentauchersin ständillä sain kuulla, että lähes kaikki mitä GT tislaa päätyy blendeihin. Tämä on harmi, sillä vaikka tämä viski ei ihan omassa makukategoriassa yltänyt sinne kärkipäähän, niin hyvää oli silti. Toffeinen ja pehmeä viski on mojova nautintoviski ilman sen ihmeellisempiä snobbailuja.
I heard that almost everything GT produces ends up at blends which is really sad because nevertheless this one wasn't the best I tasted yesterday it was clearly the one you can enjoy without writing notes down. Toffee, fudge, smooth, fruity. Nice one.

Glenglassaugh 30 YO
Hauska setä tiskillä kiltissä oli iloinen kun kysyin ko. viskiä ja sanoikin heti että tässä on paras viski, jota tulet tänään maistamaan. Hienoisesti hymyilytti, mutta perkutarallaa sentään, niin hän oli oikeassa. Täyteläinen viski, jossa tuoksussa piipputupakkaa ja sekös on ihanaa. Puuta, tammea, sherryäkin sekä appelsiininkuorta löytyi. Pehmeässä maussa taasen mausteita, vaniljaa ja puuta. Kivan tasapainoinen viski.
There was this funny kilted guy at the stand who immediately said that the whisky I just asked will be the best one that evening. I was amused but holy smoke he was right. Oaky, Woody, zesty whisky with pipe tobacco aromas. Full-bodied, spicy, smooth. Just awsome. The best whisky I had that evening.

Old Overholt
Tähän väliin naukkasin vähän rukiistakin ja Old Overholtin straight rye whiskey. No, olihan se rukiinen ja ihan mukava, mutta ei ehkä sittenkään my cup of tea. Tai sitten asiaan vaikutti se, että maistoin tätä heti hienon Glenglassaughin jälkeen.
Then I tasted some rye whiskey but I have to say that it wasn't my cup of tea. Perhaps because I tasted that right after that marvelous Glenglassaugh.
Pisteet: n19+t20+f20+b19 = 78/100.

Glenfarclas Family Cask Release VII 1996/2011
Tämän tislaamon viskit ovat aina hyviä. Monta hyvää pullotetta löytyy heiltä ja tämäkään ei ollut poikkeus. Mausteinen, sherryinen, tamminen, viinimäinen ja toffeinen viski. Peukutuksia tälle.
I've always liked this distillery. Many good releases and this one isn't an exception. Spicy, sherry, oaky, winey whisky with toffee. Great.

Kilchoman Vintage 2007
Kikkoman (kuten eräs toinen bloggaaja kutsuu tätä tislaamoa) on myöskin tehnyt hyvää jälkeä Islay'n saarella. Tämä versio on kivan savuinen ja mieleen tuleekin sammutettu nuotio tuoksun perusteella. Sitrustakin löytyy. Pehmeä. Hieno viski.
Kikkoman (like one other blogger calls this) is very nice distillery and they've produced some fine whiskies during the past years. This one is really nice with smoky and citric aromas.

Longrow 18 YO
Ja illan pettymys kyseessä. Kahvinen, kukkainen, hedelmäinen ja hunajainen viski jää vain jotenkin etäiseksi. Ei vain iske. Sorry.
The disappointing whisky of the evening. It has coffee, floral, fruity and honey aromas and flavours but still is just not putting on the fifth gear.
Pisteet: n19+t20+f18+b19 = 76/100.

Glenglassaugh Evolution
Piti palata takaisin hassun sedän ständille nauttimaan vielä se toinen GG. Tämäkin oli hyvä, vaikka ei ihan yltänyt 30 -vuotiaan tasolle. Pikkaisen tuli tuoksusta mieleen porilainen Old Buck. Vaniljaa, hedelmää, hunajaa ja mausteita löytyi kivasti.
I had to go back to funny guy after disappointing Longrow. This one was also good but just didn't match the 30 YO. The aroma reminded me of Porian whisky Old Buck. Vanilla, fruits, honey and spices. Good.
Pisteet: n22+t22+f21+f22 = 87/100.

Macallan 21 YO Oak Finish
Macallan on kanssa näitä ns. laatutislaamoja, mutta nämä tammifinistelyt eivät oikein toimi. Ei 12 YO kohdalla eikä tämän 21 YO:nkaan kohdalla. Ihan OK mutta mitäpä tästä sen enempää.
Macallan is a distillery that many consider to be one of the quality distilleries but these oak finishes are just boring. It didn't work with 12 YO and I have to admit that this 21 YO is the same kind of a disappointment. Okay whisky with nothing else to say about.
Pisteet: n21+t20+f20+b20 = 81/100.

Caol Ila 1990/2012 (Mackillop's Choice)
Tykkään myös Caol Ila'sta, mutta tämä jää sinne jonnekin. Ei silti ehkä se pahin pettymys, mutta niin kuin niin monet Mackillop'sin pullottamat viskit, niin jää aika köykeäksi. Nahkaa, suolaa, merta, savua, juupajuu, mutta ei vain oikein iske.
I also like Caol Ila but this one's not the best ones. Like many Mackillop's bottlings this one's also quite boring. Leathery, salty, sealike, smoky, oh yeah but it just don't do it for me.

Talisker 18 YO
Lopuksi nautin ilman sen enempää ajattelemista Taliskerin 18-vuotiaan viskin. Olen sille joskus antanut 88 pistettä, joten antaa sen olla niin. Tämä oli ihan puhtaasti vain nautiskelua varten kivan festari-iltapäivän päätteeksi.
I have rated Talisker 18 YO few years ago (88 points given) so this one was perfect to end the nice afternoon with no need to rate anything. I just drank this. Suits me fine, sir.
