Viimeisimmät viskit, osa 3

Uisge-festarin lisäksi on tullut maisteltua myös out of the box -viskejä eli sellaisia, joita en varmaankaan normaalisti maistelisi. Toki myös tuttuja skottilaisia on tullut maisteltua.
Besides Uisge festivals I tasted some "out of the box" whiskies I usually don't buy.

Teerenpeli Äes
Heti pitää todeta, että Teerenpeli ei kuulu tuohon out of the box -sarjaan :-)
Aikaslailla omenainen, parfyyminen ja kukkainen. Lyhyt jälkimaku ja kevyehkö. Kaski oli parempaa.
Apples,  perfume, floral with short aftertaste.

Jameson Select Reserve Black Barrel
Mukavan konjakkinen ja hedelmäinen sekä aprikoosimainen viski. Tätä voisin ottaa uudestaankin.
Really nice with cognac feeling. Fruity with apricots. I could drink this again.
P: n22+t22+f21+b21 = 86/100

Clontarf NAS
Huhhuh. Kumia ja kumia vain. Ei oikein meikäläisen viski.
Well, well, well. Lots of rubber. Not my cup of tea... whiskey.
P: n18+t17+f18+b16 = 69/100

Bushmill's 16 YO
Tuoksu on selkeästi kuin jostain työpajalta tai korjaamolta. Siis miellyttävällä tavalla. Mausteinen ja ruutinen. Täyteläinen ja pitkä jälkimaku. Pidän kovasti.
The scent is like from a repair shop in a very pleasant way. Spicy with gun powder. Full-bodied with long aftertaste. Like this very much.

Bushmill's 21 YO (Madeira 2013)
Mausteinen, hedelmäinen, suklainen, täyteläinen ja pitkä jälkimaku. Nam.
Spicy, fruity, chocolates, full-bodied and long aftertaste. Great.
P: n21+t22+f21+b21 = 85/100

Label 5
No tästä ei nyt niin paljoa irronnut. Aika tylsä blended.
'Nuff said.

Smokey Joe
Onhan tässä hienosti sitä savua ja turvetta. Jeps. Minttua ja tervaakin.
Quite nice amount of smoke and peat. Also mint and tar.

The Naked Grouse
Positiivinen ylläri tämä. Konjakkinen, konvehtinen, suklainen, ruutinen, täyteläinen, pitkä jälkimaku. Erittäin hyvä blended.
Positive surprise. Cognac, praline, chocolate, gun powder, full-bodied and long aftertaste. Very good blended whisky.

Compass Box The Spice Tree
Omenainen ja mausteinen. Kevyt. Helppo viski.
Apples and spices. Light and easy.
P: n18+t17+f16+b16 = 67/100

Cutty Sark 12 YO
Sarjassa taas hedelmäinen ja kevyt.
Again a fruity and easy whisky
P: n19+t20+f20+b18 = 77/100

Mielenkiintoista oli myös maistaa sellaisia viskejä, joita olin jo maistanut ja siksi olikin hienoa vertailla ratingejä (suluissa ensin nyt annettu ja sen jälkeen vanhempi tulos).

Uisge2012

How come 12 months go so fast? It was just like yesterday when the Uisge2011 was held at Gallows Bird. This time the whisky festivals were held at Vanha Ylioppilastalo at the centre of Helsinki. Pub environment was perhaps better when it comes to enjoy whisky but VY had more space inside and I assume there weren't any queues outside like last year. I did miss some really interesting items this time but all in all it's great that the powers behind this event had the enthuasism to organize this. Thank You and hope we see you next year.

Me and my wife tasted 14 different single malts (+ Tia tasted also Balvenie 21YO) and had a really great time. I even tore down the stand of Grant's - of course, this was an accident. Believe it or not. Excellent feeling and great that so many foreign whisky experts travelled to Finland just for this happening. Hopefully there will be Uisge2013...

BTW. The gentleman behind Balvenie desk suggested us to taste Port Wood 21 YO and Parmesan cheese together. That sounded a wee bit odd but after tasting I was gobsmacked. Great combination. Thanks for the idea.

Few drinks @ Maltainen Riekko (16 October 2011)

Maltainen Riekko is a nice pub at Alppila area in Helsinki with a nice collection of single malts. Yesterday I had a chance to taste Mackmyra which is a Swedish whisky. Preludium 05 couple of years ago was a nice experience and this "Swedish single malt - the first edition" was very good indeed. Very vanilla flavoured and fruity. 84 points to that. American microbreweries are something I like very much. Yesterday I had two bottles: first Flying Dog's Snake Dog IPA and Short's Brew's Golden Rule. Both were excellent beers. Snake IPA had some great hoppy flavours and Golden Rule (with very funny label) was also piney and hoppy. 3.8 and 3.6 points to them. I also tasted some Irish whisky and I have to say that Connemara peated was excellent. Beautiful peaty, earthy and tarry nose and taste. Easily 89 points to that. I almost forgot that I had some belgian beer too: Scaldis. That's 12% ABV but still very soft beer. Belgium is definitely one of the best beer countries in the world. 3.6 points to that beer. Nice evening beside a Scrabble game and great beverages. People should taste more these kind of beers and not only cheap bulk lagers.
