I bumbed into this at the local Alko. ABV 8.6% and pitch black colour. Sounds great. Lots of bready and coffee scents all over and bready and malty flavours. I was really gobsmacked. Great porter. Very full-bodied with syrupy mouth feel. Very nice indeed.

Today I had the chance of tasting couple of great ales by Stone Brewing company that locates at San Diego. First I tasted Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale which was really hoppy. Tonight's the night for Huvila Pale Ale which is a cloudy golden brown beer from the Malmgård brewery. The first sniff was filled with hoppiness. It was also citric. Bought today Benromach's 10 Year Old bottle from the local. The scent reminds me quite much of Littlemill or Glenlivet but this one's better. Lots of apples but also this is floral and has perfume notes. Taste is filled with floral, fruity, vanilla and honey notes. It's sweet on the palate and has medium long and fruity finish. Let's pour some black beer into a pint. Laitilan Kievari Portteri has some nice deep black colour and light brown thick and frothy head. Lots of bread, caramel and maltiness in the nose. Coffee and caramel on the palate but also it's quite syrupy. This ale goes well in the dark and cold days of Finland. Points: 36/50.

Couple of weeks ago I just couldn't resist of trying my own blended malt. I took 1 cl of Aberlour 10 YO and 1 cl of Laphroaig 10 YO. There was a nice blend of smokiness and fruitiness. Nose had dried plums but it was still smoky. Taste: smoky, fruity and sweet. I was surprised this experiment turned out to so well. Points: nose21+taste21+finish20+balance = 82 points. I'm glad that I had the chance to taste this closed and demolished distillery's whisky. This was 35 years old and it was distilled in 1975 and bottled in the Spring of 2011. The colour was quite similar to white wine. The scent from the glass was overwhelming: it was spicy, sweet, gingery and also toffee and coffee. Whisky itself was full-bodied and there were lots of fruits, oils and honey.

It's been a long time since I last drank this whisky. I have to say that I like Aberlour's whiskies, especially A'bunadh is very tasty. But I assume many Aberlour whiskies cannot be described as poor. I have given 85 points to this whisky and I think that's okay and I do not have to change that. Glenturret is the Scotland's oldest still working distillery. I remember that I gave quite bad points to 12 year old but this version is much better. Royal Lochnagar's 12 Year Old is one of my favourites. This version (Carn Mor Vintage series bottle) is not so good but still not bad at all. White wine coloured whisky with plums, fruits, vanilla and lots of fresh grapes on the nose. Nice. Whisky is full-bodied with fruity, sweet and peach notes on the palate. Very nice whisky this time. Colour is pale amber to me. Nosing is sweet, fruity, perfumed, floral and licorice after adding water. Tasting is full-bodied, sweet, spicy, citrus and fruity. Finish is very long, citric and fruity. Points: 23+22+22+22 = 89 which is 9-. Very good whisky.

Nice whisky in front of me. Toffee, honey, vanilla and somewhat yeasty features in the nose. When I tasted it I felt more banana fruit notes. Finish is sweet and medium long. Suitable song: Grateful Dead - Morning Dew. Points: 21+21+19+20 = 81 which is a grade of 8.

It's time for an Irish dram: Tullamore Dew Original. Nose has fruity notes with lots of apples and spices. Water brings lacquer. Taste is medium-bodied, fruity and floral. Couple of weeks ago I bought this at local off-license. My last evaluation was quite weak so now I made a new one. Colour is quite bright gold and nice. I can smell malty, honey, nutty and vanilla scents. Medium-bodied whisky. It's flavours are malty, nutty and melon. Finish and aftertaste is medium and malty and fruity.
